SPECIAL PROJECTS

SOCA DAY PROMOTIONAL/EVENT MATERIALS

In the spring of 2020, I was asked to create the look-and-feel, as well as all the design deliverables, for the School of Communications and the Arts annual SoCA DAY event. The day-long event offers alternative learning setting, featuring speakers and alums, with content tailored to Communications and Design students. This year, the event committee wanted to look to the future, conveying a sense of forward-thinking and an embracing of new and emerging media tools and storytelling methodologies.

I used vibrant colors, blurs, half-tone textures and black tape highlights to create a youthful, game-packaging aesthetic with a nod towards Swiss Design and the New Wave aesthetic of April Greiman. Materials included an eight-panel brochure, social media ads (Twitter, Instagram), a promotional motion graphics video, plasma screen ads, posters, and event day one-sheets and PowerPoint backgrounds.

ALUM ZOOM HOUR PANEL

During the fall 2020 semester, the School of Communication and the Arts sought to offer virtual events that would create a sense of community and continuity for current students and alums. One of the first events was a panel featuring alums who are adjusting to the “new normal” of Covid-19 work life. I made these materials to promote the event. I used Adobe Dimension to create a 3D laptop (with glass texture) and a new Photoshop feature that allows you to create vector smart objects from bitmap illustrations—in this case, the silhouettes, coffee mug and tie details.

DESIGNER SHOWCASE NAME PLATES

During COVID, we couldn’t have in-person events to showcase the work of our designers. I created an online showcase and designed these name plates for each designer, using samples of their work in the circle shapes. Instead of exporting directly from Photoshop, I used screen captures that show the text tool highlights as a way to reveal process and expose the toolset. Because I knew the images were destined for online use only, I did not have to worry about a high dpi; the 72dpi screen capture was sufficient.

OTHER ITEMS

I created various additional promotional items for School of Communications and the Arts events this year.
