VIRTUAL TEACHING
When COVID-19 called for the rapid transition to online teaching last spring, I began converting my courses into virtual learning modules. My mix of production and delivery tools included Adobe Express (formerly Spark), Premiere, Audition, Quicktime, Canvas, YouTube and, of course, Zoom. I found that graphic design subject matter was not difficult to transpose into virtual experiences, given the screen-based nature of the content and the emphasis on digital production.
I have continued to convert my courses this fall, updating and refining the material as I work my way through the syllabi. The resulting learning modules, authored with Express, work both synchronously and asynchronously. They were created with a flex or hybrid designation in mind. I present to students in the classroom and at home (via Zoom) simultaneously. But I also record the Zoom sessions and make the recordings, the Spark presentations and course materials (via Canvas) available asynchronously as well.
